Day Five, Six and Seven!

The skies lashed at our tent throughout the night. Pegasus didn't move. He just laid motionless. I lay planning how to get home with a now, charged phone, thanks to a lady with electricity! It didn't take long to work out our route: taxi to the bus stop, bus to a train station, on to another train station and then arrive at Lydney 5 hours later. Walking between each phase less than five minutes. I'd got it cracked.
After we took a hell of a battering, I woke ready to get cracking. Pegasus didn't move. He just lay there looking with expressionless eyes ... but not moving. I tempted him with the dry food I usually sprinkle on his preferred food, but apart from a handful of pieces he took out of my hand, he wasn't interested. I had nothing else to give him; I'd not been able to top up with food at the last town, as we'd arrived when all the shops were shut. I was frustrated with myself, I hadn't thought to get the taxi driver to stop off at a shop, on the way to the campsite. My working memory just couldn't navigate successfully all the choices and possibilities. There wasn't a shop on the campsite and I couldn't expect Pegasus to walk into town. It was a hateful situation to be in. The rain continued ...
I let panic in!
I'd wanted to do this walk, knowing, Pegasus was an old dog. I'd said I'd take it easy and go at his pace, but I'd got it wrong and exhausted him. His toe was healing nicely but his spirit wasn't. If Pegasus didn't eat, he wasn't going to improve. I couldn't get any food for him, without taking him out in the pouring rain, which risked opening the wound on his toe and further tiring him ... that is ... if he had the energy in him to do it.
Anguish flooded my heart. It was time to say 'no more'. Pegasus needed help and I couldn't do it on my own.
I phoned Dad.
My hero came.
Upon seeing Dad, Pegasus brightened up and found his voice. With help Pegasus got into the car and we took him home.
It's been 36 hours since we got home. Pegasus has eaten like a king and slept like a baby. Thankfully, he's back to his 'full on' self once more.
Me ... I've not finished. I planning on going back to that path. It has hold of my spirit, I want to breathe in it's rawness until I feel alive again.
